Board members must realize they have personal expectations and responsibilities for their board service. The board makes decisions only as a collective team but its members have individual duties and tasks for which they are accountable. Board members are liable for their own actions.
What to do:
- Familiarize yourself about the mission, programs, and history of the organization
- Accept and complete assignments as agreed
- Come to meetings regularly — and come prepared
- Avoid conflict of interest — even in appearance
- Remain loyal to the organization
- Keep confidential information confidential
- Make a personal financial contribution
